Award Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council Vice President David I. Weprin receives the Council’s Award for Outstanding Service to the Community of Northeast Queens at the NEQJCC’s Installation and Awards Breakfast this fall. Long active in the Council and its member organizations, David previously served as Treasurer and chair of the Annual Breakfast. [Councilman Weprin's official biography follows.] Councilman David I. Weprin (D-Queens) represents the people of the 23rd District in northeast Queens having won the Democratic primary with 79% of the vote and the general election with 69%. He also received the highest number of votes of any council candidates in Queens in both the primary and general elections. He is Chairman of the City Council's Finance Committee as well as a member of the Sanitation, Rules and Cultural Affairs Committees. Born in Queens on May 2, 1956, David Weprin has lived in the
Hollis-Jamaica area for his entire life. He is a graduate of Jamaica High

He practiced law from 1980-1983 when be was appointed by Governor Mario Cuomo to serve as Deputy Superintendent of Banks for New York State and Secretary to the New York Banking Board from 1983-1987. During that period, David was personally involved in drafting and implementing many consumer banking laws including requirements that banks must clear checks in a more immediate and efficient manner. His public career demonstrates broad experience in intergovernmental operations. David was a Legislative Assistant to the New York Assembly's Committee on Governmental Operations, Housing and Banking from 1995-1997. He also served as a Congressional Intern with the United States House Subcommittee on Commerce, Consumer and Monetary Affair. David occupied a variety of leadership positions with several Wall Street firms from 1987-2000 as Vice-President, Senior Vice-President, Managing Director in Municipal Finance. He also was elected by his peers to serve as the Chairman of his industry's trade group, the Security Industry Association - New York District. In June of 2000, David became a partner in the Manhattan-based law firm of Sieratzki, Ceccarelli and Weprin. Since 1994, he has served as a Democratic District Leader and Executive Member of the Saul Weprin Democratic Club named after his late father, Assembly Speaker Saul Weprin. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Government Finance Officers Association, the National Conference for Community and Justice, the Respect for Law Alliance, the Citizens Budget Commission, the American Jewish Congress Metropolitan Region, the Brandeis Association of Queens, the Eastern Queens Democratic Club and the Holliswood Civic Association. David is Vice President of the Northeast Queens-Jewish Community Council, Board Member of the Economic Education Foundation and has served on the New York City Tax Reform Task Force. He is the recipient of the Mid-Queens Fresh Meadows Youth Alliance Community Service Award. David lives with his wife Ronni in Holliswood.
