Outstanding Service to the Northeast Queens Community


Ethel Levine

 
Ethel Levine serves as Second Vice President of the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council (NEQJCC).  In that role, Ethel is instrumental in many of the council's education and cultural programs and promoting support for the State of Israel.
 
An accomplished educator, Ethel was an administrator and teacher 22 years at Bushwick High School.  She excelled as a Teacher of English, Dean of Girls, and as Creator and Coordinator of the school's Career Education Curriculum.  She also set up and managed the Rockaway Adult Literacy Center of the Queens Borough Public Library (QBPL).  QBPL presented her with its Library Luminary Award.
 
In addition to her leadership role in NEQJCC, Ethel serves on the Hillcrest Jewish Center Board of Trustees, chairs the synagogue's Social Action Committee and serves on its Ritual Committee and Continuing Education Committee.  She also serves Hillcrest Hadassah as Vice President Ways and Means and the Hillcrest Jewish Center Sisterhood Board as Recording Secretary.
 
Ethel's previous community involvements include President of the PTA of Jamaica High School, Secretary of the PTA of P.S.131 and Vice President of Membership of Hillcrest Hadassah.  In 2003, Ethel and her husband, Joseph, were the honorees at the Hillcrest Jewish Center's UJA-Federation Annual Campaign.
 
Ethel and Joe are proud parents of two children and five grandchildren.
