JEWISH COUNCILS CONDEMN NAZI SLUR AGAINST SCHOOLS CHANCELLOR

Queens Jewish leaders condemned the painting of a swastika found this morning on the steps of the main entrance of P.S. 115, The Glen Oaks School, in Floral Park. The Queens Jewish Community Council and Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council reported the scrawling of this symbol of mass hate to the City's Police Department. NEQJCC President Corey Bearak, whose son attends P.S. 115, reported that the name of Schools Chancellor Joseph Fernandez (with the surname wrongly spelled "FERNADEZ") was scrawled with a swastika instead of the "z" at the end of Fernandez.

"All New Yorkers should find this act offensive and outrageous," said
NEQJCC President Corey Bearak and QJCC President Abraham Hecht and Executive Director Manny Behar. "We condemn any use of the swastika. The use of this symbol of mass hate and destruction to disagree with any political or public figure tends to trivialize the Holocaust and is insensitive to the pain and suffering of the six million who perished and those who survived."

The Queens Jewish Community Council represents more than 90 synagogues, organizations and institutions throughout the Borough of Queens.

The Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council represents over thirty synagogues, Jewish organizations and fraternal groups in Bayside, Bay Terrace, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Hollis Hills, Little Neck, New Hyde Park and Queens Village.
