NORTHEAST QUEENS JEWISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL ELECTS OFFICERS; BEARAK PRESIDENT 6TH TERM

Corey B. Bearak, a Bellerose attorney, was unanimously re-elected as President of the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council [NEQJCC] at a meeting last week [Monday, May 13, 1995] at the Young Israel of Windsor Park in Bayside. Mr. Bearak, an attorney with experience in state and city government, will serve an unprecedented sixth term as NEQJCC President.

In addition to Mr. Bearak [Temple Sholom], the re-elected officers include First Vice President Joseph Varon [Young Israel of New Hyde Park & Queens Jewish Committee on Scouting], Second Vice President Susan Fogel [Young Israel of Windsor Park], Third Vice President Helene Zaro [Bell Park Jewish Center] and Secretary Marcia Federman [Queens Jewish Community Council & Jewish Center of Bayside Hills]. The NEQJCC also elected Max Singer [Marathon Jewish Community Center] as Treasurer.

Mr. Bearak works as Counsel/Chief of Staff to Councilman Sheldon Leffler who chairs the Council's Public Safety Committee. Mr. Bearak served on Community School Board 26 from 1989 to June, 1993 and on Community Board 13 from 1980 to 1988. He also serves the borough's Queens Jewish Community Council as Vice President. In addition, Mr. Bearak is President of the North Bellerose Civic Association, Vice President of the Eastern Queens Civic Council, co-chair of the Federation of Civic Councils of the Borough of Queens, steering committee member of QUEST [Queens United to Explore Secession Tomorrow], President of the Queens County Line Democratic Association and a National Board member of the National Jewish Democratic Council [NJDC] and Democratic Action Chair of NJDC's New York State Chapter. A leading civic spokesperson on school issues, Mr. Bearak has testified on school governance issues and organized and spoke at forums on school budget and governance.

Mr. Bearak and his wife, Rachelle, reside in their Bellerose home with their children, Jonathan and Marisa. Mrs. Bearak is PTA Co-President of P.S. 115 in Floral Park and Secretary-Treasurer of the Friends of Lifeline.

An association of religious, education, fraternal and community organizations, the NEQJCC covers Bay Terrace, Bayside, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Hollis Hills, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens and Queens Village (north).

Council projects include neighborhood development, fostering intergroup understanding and building a multi-cultural coalition. The Council combats anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination. The NEQJCC also sponsors forums with major public figures, Jewish Cultural events, open discussions with local Rabbis and represents community concerns. The Council's next program, the Multimedia 3000 year journey through Jewish history, the Jerusalem experience, takes place Sunday, June, 1996 at the Samuel Field Y, 58-20 Little Neck Parkway (Admission: $3/adult; $1/child). A UJA/Federation beneficiary, the NEQJCC works closely with the Queens Jewish Community Council, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater New York, the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty and the Samuel Field/ Bay Terrace YM-YWHA.
