N.E.Q. JEWISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL HOSTS REPORT BY SEN. D'AMATO: THE HOLOCAUST & THE SWISS BANKS

The Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council [NEQJCC] presents  a special program, U.S. Senator Alfonse D'Amato Reports on The Holocaust & The Swiss Bankers, hosted by Oakland Jewish Center, 61-35 220th Street in Bayside, Monday, February 24, 1997, at 7:30 p.m., announced NEQJCC President Corey Bearak.  NEQJCC Vice President for Legislation, Helene Zaro, will moderate  A light collation, sponsored by Oakland Jewish Center, will follow the presentation.

Oakland's Rabbi, Michael Ehrlich, arranged the program after attending the Senator's presentation at a meeting in Forest Hills sponsored by the Queens Jewish Community Council.  "For more than one year, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, under Senator D'Amato's leadership, has investigated the activities of Swiss banks during the Holocaust," explained Rabbi Ehrlich.  "Senator D'Amato will report on the investigation and the results to date."

"An association of 19 synagogues and other religious, education, fraternal and community organizations, the NEQJCC covers Bay Terrace, Bayside, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Glen Oaks, Hollis Hills, Holliswood, Jamaica Estates, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens and Queens Village (north)," advised Mr. Bearak.   "A UJA-Federation beneficiary, the NEQJCC works closely with the Queens Jewish Community Council, the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater New York, the Metropolitan New York Coordinating Council on Jewish Poverty and the Samuel Field/ Bay Terrace YM-YWHA."

"Council projects include neighborhood development, Jewish continuity, fostering intergroup understanding and building a multi-cultural coalition. The Council combats anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination," reports NEQJCC Executive Director Sharon Nadel.  "The NEQJCC also sponsors forums with major public figures, Jewish Cultural events, open discussions with local Rabbis, leadership development for our synagogues and represents community concerns."
