NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT: THE NEXT PHASE, WEDNESDAY, MAY 26, 1999

Building on past efforts to obtain assistance from UJA-Federation, the Council reports a successful meeting with lay and professional leaders of Federations Synagogue Relations Committee. With support from the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Samuel Field Y, the Council received a commitment from this UJA committee that it intends to bring resources, personnel and skills into our synagogues.

The Council will provide preliminary information, including what it means for our synagogues and Jewish life in northeast Queens, at our May 10 delegates meeting at the Y. A strong show of community support remains critical to the success of this Neighborhood Development initiative. A June meeting with Rabbi Michael Paley, Director of Synagogue Relations, and lay committee chair, Rabbi Jonathan Rosenblatt, will provide additional information.

The Council urges synagogue lay leaders and their committee chairs to attend a special seminar with Rabbi Paley, 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 26 at the Y. The program, dedicated to enhancing leadership from a Jewish perspective, is called In the Shadow of the Mountain: Reflections on a Jewish Mission. Reservations are required. Call Sharon Nadel, 225-6750 x247 by May 15.
