An association of synagogues and other religious, education, fraternal and community organizations, the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council (NEQJCC) covers Bay Terrace, Bayside, Bellerose, Douglaston, Floral Park, Fresh Meadows, Glen Oaks, Hillcrest, Holliswood, Hollis Hills, Jamaica Estates, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Oakland Gardens, Queens Village (north) and Whitestone.

A beneficiary of UJA-Federation, the NEQJCC has worked closely with the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty ("Met Council"), Samuel Field Y, Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation ("Parker"), Hadassah and Jewish Community Relations Council of New York ("JCRC").

NEQJCC maintains a community calendar, offers Lay Leadership seminars and support and coordinates member organization participation in the annual Celebrate Israel Parade. Its projects have included neighborhood development, Jewish continuity including Shalom Bayit/Healthy Marriage, social action, promoting involvement and volunteer opportunities, fostering intergroup understanding and building a multi-cultural coalition (It created the Harmony Initiative or Hi collaboration.). The Council also combats anti-Semitism and discrimination, sponsors forums with major public figures, Jewish cultural events, open discussions with local Rabbis, connects programs of the Y, Parker and UJA-Federation agencies -- such as Connect to Care -- to member synagogues and member organizations, and represents community concerns.    Find more information about council programs, events, activities and advocacy, including photos, in our Media link at left.

As part of its Neighborhood Development efforts, the Council helped form the NORC-WOW, a pilot program to serve seniors in one and two family homes.  The Council publishes a (four-fold, 8.5 by 14-inch) brochure, You Can Have It All, touting life in northeast Queens communities, also available through its website.

Past programs include its Installation of Officers and Awards Reception (See an invite for a recent reception and the program journal from the last event)  sponsored by by Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation, the lighting of the largest Chanukah Menorah  in Queens, Harmony initiative  Pre-Passover and Fall Food Drives sponsored by Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation and Met Council, a and Purim Carnivals, at the Samuel Field Y.

The Council organized many Legislative Forums, co-sponsored by Parker, Met Council, JCRC and Hadassah, at the Samuel Field Y.  In 2002 and 2004, the Council, together with Queens Hadassah and the Consulate of Israel, hosted the Ben Yeduda Street Comes to Bayside, an Israeli Gifts Fair, which attracted thousands of visitors who purchased direct from Israeli merchants and listened to Israeli entertainers.   In celebration of Israel's 60th, Hadassah and NEQJCC organized a 2008 Ben Yeduda fair and concert.
