JEWISH COMMUNITY ORGANIZES 5th Harmony initiative ANNUAL FALL FOOD DRIVE

Jewish community organizations and agencies join with local elected officials to kick off the Fifth Annual "Harmony initiative Fall Food Drive," Sunday, September 13, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Samuel Field Y, 58-20 Little Neck Parkway in Little Neck, announced Chairman Corey Bearak and President Jack Friedman of the Northeast Queens Jewish Community Council (NEQJCC), which organized the program. The drive runs through October 23. "We want to fight hidden hunger in the community," stated Mr. Bearak.

"As the largest regional Jewish community council in the Greater New York area, NEQJCC is proud to sponsor this program with the Samuel Field/Bay Terrace Y, Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation, UJA-Federation of New York, Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty and our elected officials," stated Mr. Friedman. "We encourage donations of unopened non-perishable foods such as baby food, beans, pasta, rice, canned food at collection points through out northeast Queens -- including the Samuel Field Y -- and adjoining communities," said NEQJCC Executive Director Gail Eisenberg who organized participation and noted the co-sponsorship of Members of Congress Gary Ackerman (office a collection site), Gregory Meeks and Anthony Weiner, Council Members David Weprin, James Gennaro, Leroy Comrie and Tony Avella, State Senators Fran k Padavan and Tony Stavisky, and Assembly Members Ann Carrozza, Barabra Clark, Rory Lancman, and Mark Weprin.
